Gutters are there to catch waterfall from the roof, and carry it away via downpipes. However gutters also end up collecting lots of other debris, such as moss, leaves and various products left by birds. Over time these accumulate in the gutter, affecting the travel of water, the water will be absorbed by the moss, swelling up and preventing water getting past, the only direction for the water to escape will be over the side, now over the front edge of the gutter will result in water falling vertically to the ground below, inevitably directly over the doorway, dripping onto your head, but rainfall going over the house side of the gutter will result in water running down the wall, possibly leading to damage to the house structure. It is therefore important to regularly clear out the contents of your gutters, avoiding expensive repairs
